This is the perfect example of a business that misleads unsuspecting customers with fine print. From start to finish, my impression of the rental and its agreement was that it was suspiciously ambiguous, misleading, and unclear. Here's how it really works with them...
Great place!
They tell you you're renting a bike for $8 for 24 hours. Seems reasonable. But don't be mistaken, it's not a 24 hours rental that they're selling you... IT'S 24, 1-HOUR RENTALS! and while you're under the impression that you have the bike for a 24 hour period, they're picking your pocket for every hour that you don't return the bike and apparently, immediately re-rent it.
I rent the bike, ride around town for an afternoon. A few days later, the charges from this company on my credit card show up and are almost 5 times what I agree to pay! Obviously I call. Not only was the supervisor rude, unwilling to listen, and talking over me the entire time, they explain it by telling me that I had to return the bike in 1hr intervals throughout the day! How realistic is it that I would want a 24-hour rental in which I return the bike once an hour?! It's not, to anyone. NOWHERE on the kiosk does it say the customer must return the bike at least once an hour and even in the fine print, it's extremely unclear. All they tell you is that it's $8 for 24 hours, and then they bury the real charges in fine print in pages of 2pt font on a poorly lit screen that you can't read if the sun is anywhere in the sky. So what they sold me were 24, 1-hour rentals. Which means they slam you with additional charges for each and every hour that you think you have the bike rented. If I had actually kept the bike for 24 hours, as advertised, I would be charged almost $300! Moreover they defend this con by saying that it's arranged for commuters who get from one station to another. Most people only ride for an hour, so this goes unnoticed, but this business is praying on the people who aren't commuting with the bikes, so they set them in recreational centers and make stacks of money by misleading recreational riders. These are the kinds of businesses that keep the term "class action" relevant. As seemling novel and convenient as these stations once seemed, I'm ashamed to know how they really operate. It makes me sad to see this kind of thing in Chattanooga. Don't support dishonest and misleading businesses.
The bikes are a great addition to the 'noog we have always enjoyed visiting. A small charge of $8 per hour, per bike is reasonable and perfect amount of time for a cruise across the pedestrian bridge and along the river walk.
Good rates. Sometimes machines are slow and don't respond when you try to check in your bike
