If I could give it zero stars I would. I checked out the website and saw that the incline railway is open until 9:30pm so I planned my trip into Chattanooga from out of state to make sure I would have plenty of time to make it to this attraction with enough time to ride it up and down the mountain. My four year old loves trains. It's his favorite thing in the whole world. As we pulled into the parking lot at 6:45pm he sees one of the trains coming down the mountain into the station. We walk up to the ticket booth and ask for 3 tickets. The booth attendant informs me that the last train ride for 7pm is booked and no more rides will be happening after that. At this time, I have to inform my four year old he can't ride the incline railway after him waiting patiently through a whole day's car ride to get here. The whole point I choose to stay overnight in Chattanooga is because of the incline railway. Had the website had accurate information, I would have chosen another city to stay that was closer to my destination.
I didn't really hate the inclined railway, I just thought it was expensive for the equivalent of the 20-30 min round trip (excluding the lines). The mechanics of the rail are definitely neat. The views were not great, but didn't realize the top station was near point park (we drove there later). If you go during the week and lines are short, I would recommend parking at the bottom station, walk to point park, and return. Just give yourself time to catch the return train (probably need at least 3-4 hrs). For train buffs it is probably worth it. For families with a kid interested in trains, look into taking a ride from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum for only a few dollars more.
We Loved it :)
The conductors were pleasant, and stores by the platform were just lovely :)
At times the ride was scary (no noises or anything just the plunging/rising view), but we felt safe, and the ride went great!
Boarding was scary just because of the sharp incline.
We got tickets through the hotel package, and was able to do several things including the sunset cruise, Ruby Falls, and Chattanooga Zoo.
Awesome place to go to, definitely worth every penny. You have an epic view from the to that you can't get anywhere else. The ride up and down the railway is really an experience in itself. The visitor center at the top just puts the cherry on top, literally. It's awesome, I highly recommend this place if you're ever in the Chattanooga area.
Make sure you have your cameras ready :)
We had a small break, so hubby and I took a walk to the stores across the street, and made it back in time.
It was okay. If you have been to rock city then you saw pretty much the same view. You just ride the train down and then get off and wait for it to go back up. Looking back I would have saved the money. It's $15 for a round trip ticket. The incline system itself is very impressive. It was a cool experience but I won't do it again.
