Hey my name was Brandon Sherrell and i am now graduated from High School I went to Bess T Shepherd when I was in elementary school and I hated it there I am not old enough to know better than I was I was young and the teachers and the grades I hated I don't know now if they have the teachers I had when I was there but I hope not the teachers were severely mean the principal was mean to I didn't know what to say to my mom I came home with bruises everyday if I had a better life than I wish I had went to school I went there because I was in foster care moving from place 2 place home to home I now live in Knoxville Tennessee and since I have been adopted out of foster care I no longer really care about the school but if I could one day go back in to visit I probably would this school is it in a severely bad neighborhood and I would not recommend any parent let the child go there it is very horrible and today I had my own way I would not of went to that school but I had no choice I am now 19 years of age and now have a fiance I am getting married pretty soon if you are reading this expecting parents I would recommend for parents not to let my kids go there and I'm looking what a job I would do anything to take my power if I had a kid not to allow them to go there on account it is a bad school and they are mean some parents that are reading this do not put your kid or enroll your kid in that school
My son has attended Bess T Shepherd for the last 2 years encompassing his 1st and 2nd grade. My husband and I have found both the academics and the arts to be very enriching to our sons personality. He has blossomed under the teaching styles of both of his teachers and has a close bond with the Principal. He went to another local public school for about 4 -6 weeks and it was a very negative experience. This was a school that many view as a "better" school in a more affluent part of town. The teacher was harsh and unkind, used bulying words words like stupid, liar, etc. She told me that our son was used to having things easy for him and the the "inner city school he came from" did not require as much academically or socially. Our son, who had always looked forward to school, started to not want to go. He said he did not feel safe there. After 3 meetings with the school and many tears (mostly mine!) we made the decision, with the help of Principal Brown, to transfer our son back to Bess T. It was the best decision we have made! Academically my 2nd grader is easily working through a 3rd grade curriculum book with few issues. His teacher encourages him in both his strenghts and opportunities and communicates well when anything arises. I am giving the school 5 stars because of the attention and care the staff give the children. My only complaint would be that the school is quite old and does not have the funding needed at times for necessary improvements. But the staff more than makes up for the building!
