I had a vacation planned for molnths and had booked a sup tour for my boyfriend and i through groupon. Come to find out l2 was having a permit problem and told me to check back in 3 weeks or so. Being that i was only on vacation for 2 weeks i was not happy.
I rented an hour of paddle board here and I had a great time paddling along the river. Right in the downtown area, easy to book, the launching site is not far from the parking lot. The instructors Sam and Tyler are very knowledgeable and helpful. I saw families with young children and they seemed to enjoy themselves paddling and swimming as well. I highly recommend L2 Outside and I'm definitely coming back!
I was in town on business and wanted to explore Maclellan Island so I reserved a kayak through L2 Outside's website. I arrived at the L2 Outside store just a few minutes before my reservation window began. From my past experience with renting watercraft, you do the paperwork at the store then go to the launch point. After paying $9 for parking and running inside I learned that I was supposed to go directly to the launch location on the far shore of the Tennessee River. I frantically got back in my car and drove across the river in search of the launch point. I had already paid $40 and didn't want to loose my reservation as I was warned was a possibility for being late. After a few unsuccessful attempts, asking some park patrons, and paying for more parking I found the launch point. After I exasperatedly explained my frustration to the L2 Outside employee, he told me about some important emails that get sent to the renter after a reservation is made. It was in those emails that it said to go directly to the launch point rather than the store. I didn't know to look for these emails and because I made my reservation the morning of I didn't see them until later that day. Fortunately they honored my reservation although I was late.The L2 Outside employee said their kayak renting is relatively new and they are still working some kinks out. I was further disappointed to find that my kayak was a sit-on-top type rather than the sit inside type that was pictured on the reservation page. I had wanted the sit inside type so I didn't get my only pair of shoes wet. I ended up flying home with wet shoes but didn't mind because Maclellan Island was gorgeous. The wild beauty of the plants and animals on this island bird sanctuary was more than enough to make up for the stressful logistics.
I had a great experience with L2. The employees were very friendly and helpful. I didn't have any issues getting to the location and get prepared for my kayaking adventure. They answered all of my questions and then my crew and I had a great time. Look forward to using L2 again in the future.
I went on their Sunset paddle boarding experience. It was wonderful. Seth, our guide, was super helpful and friendly. He answered any questions patiently and thoroughly. Seth helped others on the tour who were having a hard time getting the hang of paddle boarding, but he mostly let you do your own thing. We went around McClellan island and saw Ospreys and great blue herons.
