I have been a loyal Old Navy/Gap customer for over a decade and after my experience this evening at the Old Navy located in the North Gate Mall in Chattanooga, Tennessee I won't return. I was shopping at another store at around 840 and after checking the Old Navy's hours (closing at 9) I left, and ran across the parking lot because I know (having worked in customer service for several years) the annoyance of last minute shoppers. However, I only needed a pair of my signature black flip flops. I arrived at the door at 8:49 and it was locked. Hmm I thought? And verified the closing time on the door (9) I peeked through the glass and noticed two men and waved to them to open the door. They quickly opened the door for me, but I was then stopped by the manager. "We're closed," she declared ,the men who helped me, looked confused and told her she should let me in. I told the manager I knew exactly what I wanted a pair of black flip flops. Yet, she refused, one of the men offered to get them for me since he hadn't left, trying to remain patient, I showed her the time on my phone (now 853) "but you're not closed" I told her. She finally let me in, after I begged her and she proceeded to tell me to "hurry up!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Why are you being rude to me? When you are not closed, that's not a way to keep customers" I told her. "Are you the manager?" I asked and she replied, "I am." "What is you're name?" I asked her calmly and she then (the icing on top) informed me "I don't give that out." I politely as I could told her I would be contacting corporate. I grabbed the flip flops and waited in line for about 10 minutes watching as said manager talked about me to the other employees (I have never felt more uncomfortable in a store in my entire life) the store was full, people were in the dressing rooms, yet the mystery manger felt it was appropriate to lock the door? Along with embarrassing and belittling me? A loyal customer who loves my Old Navy staples! Well not anymore. I certainly won't return to the North Gate Mall location and will have a very hard time giving my money to a company who has employs such a person. I have already shared my experience yesterday evening (Saturday, May 28) with several people and they share share my disappointment. The way said manager handled her self on behalf of Old Navy was wrong from start to finish and I expect something to be done.
Really nice staff. Store was clean. Everything was in place and orderly.
