Service was quick and attentive and the food was outstanding. My wife had the seafood gratin and I had the New York strip. Both plates were delicious and well presented. My steak was honestly the best strip I've been served in a very long time... maybe ever. It was perfectly cooked medium rare, and the seasoning and quality of the cut was amazing.
The steak we had ordered medium-rare was served medium-well, probably due to its amazingly thin cut. We decided not to eat it or have it replaced and the waiter decided to leave it on the table anyway for 20+minutes.
This place received a 2nd star from me only because the ambience is very romantic. That aside nothing went well.
When prodded again for the mysterious cream sauce he stuttered around to reassure us that cream really was used, on some level, in it's preparation.
Ordered 'lump' crab cakes that were so over mixed that there wasn't a 'lump' of anything. The consistency was of mashed potatoes. And the mustard 'cream' sauce was a deep burgundy color that tasted like BBQ sauce. When asked the waiter (who could barely open a bottle of wine) had no idea about the dish but, promised to ask.
Went for my birthday. Lovely place. Wonderful food.
I would go back to the Back Inn Cafe in a heartbeat.
Staff was very friendly. Food was delicious. I had the crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, and pork chop. My favorite part of the dishes had to be the bacon jam.
My wife and I dropped in the weekend before Valentine's day. We got really lucky without a reservation because another party of two had just cancelled right before we walked in the door. (I don't recommend trying that for yourself if you want a seat quickly.)
Will not return.
