Making my way back to Tampa from Christmas with my family in Michigan and stopped in. Trip advisor had this rated 7/10, but I now know to stick with Google ratings only.
My room was non-smoking although smelled of cigarette smoke, a stale smell like an old bowling alley. The sheets had cigarette Burns, stains and holes in them. The TV was clearly from the 90s as it was maybe an 18 inch with a box back end. After unpacking my car and bringing the dogs in I found cigarette Ash and the cap to a needle by the bathtub. At this point I had already been on the road for 11 hours - I was exhausted and it was still 70 degrees less than what I'm used to outside AKA freezing.
My guest walked into the door of the room and saw 3 roaches within 4 minutes. Bed sagged in the middle. Check in was pleasant and speedy. Staff was helpful and nice to talk to at 10 pm after a long trip.
After looking at some Google reviews upon check-in, I thoroughly inspected the room and mattress for bugs and found none. The sheets and bedding smelled as if they had been cleaned. That is the only positive thing
We walked in the room and found a cigarette butt and earring on the floor. There were holes in the bed spreads and then we found roaches in the sink, bathtub, walls and night stand. The mattresses were dirty. The only good things were that the sheets appeared to be clean, our cars did not get broken into and the room did not get broken into. When we informed the front desk clerk about it in the morning, she didn't even look up and said "I'm sorry about that", which I don't believe one bit. I think she was used to hearing that and did not care.
We reserved and paid for a room that was suppose to be down stairs, smoking with 2 queen size beds. Instead they gave us an upstairs room and the beds were full size. The counter was falling apart and the toilet wouldn't flush. We took them the key back and told them we wanted a different room and with queen size beds on the ground floor. We went back that even to get the keys to our new room. The second room was just as bad as the first room. The bathtub was nasty, the sick was nasty and looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time and there was trash under the beds. We still didn't get queen beds either they were full size beds. When we said something to the manager he told us, "Well you should fell lucky to have a roof over your head." We will never ever go back to that hotel and would discourage anyone else to go there. The reason we even went there was because of the incoming hurricane. That is not how guest should be treated. Also we paid for the room and telling us we should feel lucky to have a roof over our head, we paid for it not the manager.
I decided to stay, because it was their last room and I had been told there is no refunds or cancellations over the phoneperiod after being on the road for so long and having already unloaded my dogs I did not want to go through the process again and find another hotel
I had a plesent stay. The mattresses could have been a better quality they were springs barely covered with material. One lampshade was broken and the TV had issues. But it was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The water was hot and it was a good size tub.
I did smell like cigarette smoke and quickly changed in my car as soon as I got in there to rid myself of my stinky clothes. I did not get bit by any bugs as far as I know so it could have been worse.
Moral of the story I need to pay attention to my fellow Google ers. This hotel is only sufficient in a desperate scenario
